There were 1,235 new cases of HIV diagnosed in Australia in 2013, the largest number in 20 years, an annual report by the University of New South Wales’ Kirby Institute said. The rates have been stable for the past few years, but are 70 percent higher than they were back in 1999, when new diagnoses were at their lowest. The spread of the deadly disease is due to rise in unprotected sex, particularly among gay men, rather than better testing, proofs proposed.
